I’m currently in the early stages of building a Raspberry Pi unit to remotely control my Celestron telescope. It should be pretty straight forward as there is a SkyPortal app for linux but I’d also like to remote control the Canon camera. It sounds possible, but I haven’t tried it yet. This looks promising. Currently I use my iPad which works great and even lets me capture video to my iPad.
I might eventually add a satellite tracking program to the Pi and have it point the telescope to intercept overhead flybys and then hopefully trigger the camera to take photos or video. I also just got a LoRa esp32 and hope to have it working with tinygs.com
It’s a bit cold outside here this time of year, so it’ll probably be a few weeks before I get to test it out. I’ve had success getting my scope to track stars from my backyard despite the glare from the city lights. However, I should take my telescope up to Wakefield and try it out up there. Darker skies will make for better astrophotos.
Ok, I just found this awesome site that will most likely solve all of my Raspberry Pi to Celestron connection issues: Astroberry Server!
